Built to Fund Itself

Earn with purpose. Reinvest in people.

Rumble Bee Fight Back Club is being created to help people who have been priced out of opportunities to become healthier, stronger and more confident.

Fundraising, grants and generous supporters may help us open the first door.

But we do not want Rumble Bee to spend its entire future waiting for somebody else to rescue it.

Our long-term ambition is to earn income ethically, trade responsibly and use the proceeds to keep the Rumble Bee doors open.

Not for private shareholders.

Not for excessive personal gain.

For people.

Free when it is needed

People experiencing genuine financial hardship should be able to use Rumble Bee without paying membership fees.

That principle will not disappear simply because the organisation begins trading.

A member might arrive unemployed, frightened, isolated or uncertain about their future. Rumble Bee aims to help them improve their health, build confidence, discover their strengths and think carefully about the life they want to create.

Where appropriate, we hope to help members prepare for training, education or employment that is meaningful to them and capable of supporting a secure and enjoyable life.

We cannot promise anybody a job or a perfect future.

We can promise to treat their potential seriously.

Paying it forward when life improves

If a member later finds work, becomes financially secure and can genuinely afford it, they may choose to move onto an affordable paid membership.

Their payment would help hold the door open for the next person who cannot afford to enter.

That is not a debt.

Nobody will owe Rumble Bee money because they became stronger, and nobody will be pressured to pay as proof of gratitude.

If somebody’s circumstances become difficult again, they should be able to ask for help without shame.

Free when needed. Affordable when possible. Always treated with dignity.

A cycle of opportunity

The Rumble Bee model aims to create a positive cycle:

  1. A person is welcomed without money being the barrier.
  2. They receive opportunities to improve their health, confidence and direction.
  3. They are supported to pursue a more secure and meaningful life.
  4. If they later become able to contribute, they can help support the next person.
  5. Income is reinvested into free places, safe facilities and the people who deliver them.

Everybody’s journey will be different. Success will never be measured only by income.

It may mean leaving the house again, feeling safe around other people, improving physical health, gaining a qualification, finding meaningful work or simply believing that tomorrow can be better.

More than membership fees

Affordable paid memberships will be only one part of the plan.

As Rumble Bee develops, we intend to explore responsible ways of generating income through:

  • Products created around the Rumble Bee mission
  • Paid services for people and organisations able to afford them
  • Training and confidence-building programmes
  • Ethical business and retail partnerships
  • Branded clothing, equipment and wellbeing products
  • Support from donors, sponsors, trusts and grant funders

Every activity must be consistent with our charitable purpose, our safeguarding responsibilities and the Rumble Bee Code.

We will not sell fear. We will sell things that help people live stronger, healthier and more purposeful lives.

British Samurai Tea

British Samurai Tea is one of Sonny’s first ideas for a product that could help Rumble Bee earn its own future.

The ambition is to work with a responsible tea-growing partner in Japan and create a distinctive range that can eventually be sold through Rumble Bee gyms, independent shops and supermarkets.

But it will be more than a drink.

It will be tea with a code of conduct.

The British Samurai idea brings together selected principles associated with Bushidō—courage, compassion, respect, honesty, honour, loyalty and doing what is right—with the best ideals of historic British conduct: courtesy, restraint, keeping your word, protecting others and using strength responsibly.

We take the good principles forward while leaving behind the inequality, prejudice and exclusion of the past.

The word “gentleman” describes a standard of honourable conduct—not somebody’s gender, class or background.

Train like a warrior. Behave with honour. Protect like a Rumble Bee.

The concept is still in development and the tea is not yet available for sale. Before launching it, we will need to establish a responsible supply chain, meet British food-import and labelling requirements and protect the brand properly.

Our vision is simple:

Every cup carries a code. Every box helps keep a gym door open.

Where the money will go

Income earned through Rumble Bee products and services will be used to advance the mission.

That may include:

  • Providing free and subsidised memberships
  • Paying qualified coaches, mentors and support workers
  • Funding safeguarding, training and professional standards
  • Maintaining safe premises and good equipment
  • Developing employment and confidence programmes
  • Building financial reserves so the project can survive difficult years
  • Opening future Rumble Bee locations where there is genuine need
  • Turning suitable voluntary roles into secure, properly paid jobs

We want people who build Rumble Bee to be valued in more than words.

Volunteers may help create the first chapter, but the long-term ambition is to provide proper wages, security, development and—in good years—a little extra honey at Christmas.

Trading safely and honestly

Rumble Bee is currently in its setup stage.

The final structure will be decided by independent trustees with suitable legal, financial and tax advice.

Our expected model is for the charity to protect and deliver the mission, while substantial commercial activities—such as supermarket sales of British Samurai Tea—may be operated through a separate trading company owned by the charity.

This would help protect charitable assets, keep the finances transparent and allow profits to be returned lawfully to support Rumble Bee’s work.

We will publish clear information about how money is earned and where it goes.

Profit with a purpose

Profit is not the enemy.

Profit without purpose is.

A healthy surplus can pay a coach, replace worn equipment, fund a free membership, provide proper safeguarding and help a good volunteer become a secure employee.

Rumble Bee should never become ashamed of earning money honestly.

The question will always be:

Does this activity help us protect the mission and create more opportunity for the people we exist to serve?

If the answer is yes, we will work hard to make it succeed.

Donations may light the first flame. Purposeful trading will help keep it burning.

Help build the Rumble Bee engine

We want to hear from ethical retailers, tea specialists, Japanese growers, product designers, manufacturers, business mentors and supporters who can help turn good ideas into sustainable income.
